Enalapril is an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (or ACE inhibitor); administered in hypertensive pediatric patients (from 1 month old and above), adults and elderly patients for treatment of:
essential hypertension
congestive heart failure
renovascular hypertension
left ventricular dysfunction
The dose of ACE inhibitor Enalapril is matched individually, depending on the blood pressure response and the degree of hypertension. An initial dose of Enalapril varies from 10 to 40mg per day (single dose or in two separated doses).
When Enalapril is used in combination with a diuretic, an initial dose of Enalapril is 5mg. The recommended initial Enalapril dose for children is 0.08 mg per kg of body weight per day (but under 5 mg per day).
Missed Dose
If you’ve forgotten to take a dose of Enalapril, make sure that there is still a lot of time till the next dose of the antihypertensive drug. Then you can take a pill as soon as possible. Otherwise, just skip the missed dose of Enalapril, and wait for the next dose.
More Information
An antihypertensive effect of Enalapril is observed within one hour after oral administration. Maximum haemodynamic and antihypertensive activity of Enalapril develops within 4-6 hours and lasts an average for 24 hours.
Clinical studies have demonstrated that the elderly patients can be more sensitive to Enalapril, than younger patients. Therefore, the recommended initial dose in elderly patients (65 years and older) is 2.5mg of ACE inhibitor per day.
Storage
Enalapril should be stored at controlled room temperature up to 30°C, and protected from bright light and moisture.

Warnings
In some patients, Enalapril may cause angioedema of the head and neck (Quincke's disease), shown as severe swelling in the lips, tongue, cheeks and throat. At the first symptoms of edema, it is recommended to stop the intake of Enalapril and to begin therapy for airway management. Enalapril is not recommended during pregnancy because of high risk of a teratogenic effect. If pregnancy occurs during the treatment with Enalapril, the application of Enalapril should be terminated as soon as possible.
